St. John's stuns No. 20 West Boca in Super 25 matchup

Heavy rain pushed one of the nation's more intriguing matchups to Saturday morning as St. John's (DC) traveled down to Florida for a showdown with West Boca Raton (FL), the No. 20 team in the USA TODAY Sports Super 25 rankings.

In a game where no one really had any idea what would happen, a rock fight ensued.

That rock fight proved to be in favor of the visiting Cadets as they overcame an 11-point deficit to beat the Bulls on the road 15-14 for the only Super 25 upset of the week.

Looking at how the first quarter played out, it would be hard to believe that St. John's would go on to snag a victory by the time it was all said and done.

West Boca scored on its opening drive as Quinton Miller Jr. found a hole and busted loose for a long touchdown run. The Bulls' defense would make life hard on the Cadets' offense for much of the half, but St. John's did manage to add a field goal to make it a four-point game in the first quarter.

Unfortunately for St. John's, West Boca would immediately answer that field goal with a touchdown. Trey Moran found Billy Clancy III on a short screen pass that he took 80 yards for a touchdown to put the Bulls up 14-3.St. John's would continually chip away at the West Boca lead throughout the remainder of the first half. Their first big break came as Nyeem Woods rolled out of the pocket and found Noah Manning for a long touchdown strike that made it a 14-9 lead.

St. John's would tack on a field goal in the closing seconds to make it a 14-12 lead for West Boca at the half.Both defenses rose in the third quarter, allowing no points, but St. John's found its opportunity to take the lead in the fourth quarter. The Cadets drove into Bulls territory and were forced to settle for a field goal, but it did put them ahead for the first time.

From there, it became a matter of which defense would make the biggest plays. The teams traded turnovers back and forth, and after St. John's missed a field goal late, West Boca took over with the ball with only two seconds remaining.

Miller was pressured immediately as he snapped the ball, leading to an incomplete pass and a statement victory for St. John's, as the Cadets moved to 4-0 on the season.
